Greg Hatza: Jazz Organist & Keyboardist of Melodic Intersect
Greg Hatza is an acclaimed jazz organist and the keyboardist of Melodic Intersect, a world fusion ensemble. As a jazz organ virtuoso and American jazz organist with deep roots in both traditional jazz and Indian classical music, he brings a rare blend of swing and spirituality to the band.
Early Years & Rise as a Jazz Organist
Hailing from Reading, Pennsylvania, Greg Hatza began playing piano at age five and switched to organ at fifteen. By sixteen, he was performing professionally at Lenny Moore’s club. In the late 1960s, he joined forces with guitarist Eric Gale and drummer Grady Tate, recording two albums for Coral Records.
Return to Organ & The Greg Hatza ORGANization
After the organ’s popularity waned in the 1970s, Greg moved to electric keyboards. Inspired by Joey DeFrancesco in the 1990s, he returned to the organ, forming The Greg Hatza ORGANization and resuming recording as a leader in modern jazz.
Academia & World Fusion
Greg earned a composition degree from the esteemed Peabody Conservatory and a Master’s from Towson State University, where he later taught jazz, piano composition, improvisation, and music theory. For over two decades, he studied Indian classical music, mastering sitar and tabla. This expertise transformed him into a world fusion keyboardist with Melodic Intersect, active in the global music scene since the 1970s.
